Worldbreakers: Advent of the Khanate

Created by Elli Amir

Worldbreakers: Advent of the Khanate is a two-player card game set in an alternate 13th century Asia. You are a Worldbreaker, an individual who can harness the mysterious substance mythium to magnify your natural talents. Over the course of the game, you will recruit followers to control the board and develop location cards to gain power. Reach 10 power to win the game, forever reshaping history! This is the official online store for Worldbreakers. Here you can get the base game (Advent of the Khanate), our first expansion (The Indigo Sisterhood), along with the base game card doubler and deluxe tokens. Worldbreakers is immediately available and will be shipped to you within 2-3 days of ordering.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Gameplay videos and deck box changes
about 2 years ago – Mon, Mar 07, 2022 at 07:53:56 PM

Welcome to a new week, and with it the latest Worldbreakers campaign updates:

  • FIVE gameplay videos from this past weekend
  • Game box + deck box measurements, followed by ...
  • Deck box redesign

Before we jump to the update, some people reported having issues backing through Kickstarter. If the platform is giving you trouble, please contact me at [email protected] or through the Discord channel, and I will work with you to find a solution.

 Worldbreakers gameplay videos

This was a busy weekend for Worldbreakers streams.

If you're looking to try the game yourself, check out the Tabletop Simulator module and the Tabletopia version. Join us on Discord to find opponents.

If you're all about playing in person, stay tuned for the print-and-play version later this week.

The Worldbreakers game box and the deck box add-on

The Worldbreakers game box is 8.5" x 5" x 1.5" (approximately 22 x 13 x 4 centimeters) and weighs around 0.75 pounds (0.4 kgs). These measurements were chosen for ease of freight and shipping. Both of these industries are still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic, which means prices are high. The flat design allows to ship Worldbreakers for as low a cost as possible. The box is great for holding unsleeved cards, counters, and the turn tracker. Also, it's beautiful!

The deck box add-on was originally designed as 5" x 4" x 3" (approximately 13 x 10 x 8 centimeters). It fits a complete playset of Worldbreakers: Advent of the Khanate, along with all of the counters.

Deck box redesign

One of the questions that came up is whether the deck box will fit the base game and the draft doubler, which has 96 additional cards, along with the counters and turn tracker. Unfortunately, the answer is no. Therefore, I reached out to the manufacturer and we will redesign the deck box to fit the base game, draft doubler, counters, turn tracker, plus leaving some space for future expansions. I am not changing the add-on and shipping costs, so if you picked the deck box add-on or the Deluxe tier, you will get the bigger box at no additional charge.

Join the Universe tier, font change, and BGG microbadges
about 2 years ago – Fri, Mar 04, 2022 at 08:21:33 PM

Happy Friday! For a campaign that has been around for "just" four days, there's a nice chunk of news, starting with this amazing preview from BoardGameQuest:

Many thanks to Spencer and Tony at BoardGameQuest for previewing Worldbreakers.

Only one "Join the Worldbreakers Universe" left!

If you're looking for something truly special, look no further than the "Join the Worldbreakers Universe" tier. We will work together on creating an alternate art version of a card that will carry your likeness, plus any other inclusions or ideas you might have. For example, one backer asked to include two of their cats along with Easter eggs to their favorite card games, all while staying true to the Worldbreakers theme. There is only one copy of the "Join the Universe" level left!

Here is an example process featuring Eynat, the Worldbreakers creative director (... who also happens to be my wife 💞):

Card font change

Several players pointed out that in the Worldbreakers card font, Athelas, the digit "1" looks similar to an uppercase "I". This is both confusing and a potential accessibility issue. Therefore, Alec Zemper (our graphics designer) suggested we switch to EB Garamond, a similarly elegant font without the misleading character.

If you have any other game suggestions or feedback, please let me know through the Kickstarter "Comments" section, the BoardGameGeek forum, or the Discord channel. One of the major benefits of running a crowdfunding campaign is allowing you, the player, to influence development.

BoardGameGeek microbadges

Worldbreakers microbadges are now available on BoardGameGeek:

Show off your favorite guild or spice up your profile with a mysterious chunk of mythium ;-) You can find them at the following links:

Let me know if you want any other microbadges and I'll get them through the BGG design and approval process.

Have a wonderful weekend -- I'll see you Monday with the latest Worldbreakers news!

PnP + playmat news and a retailer pledge level
about 2 years ago – Wed, Mar 02, 2022 at 10:16:24 PM

The past day has been so exciting! I am amazed and delighted that Worldbreakers got funded in just eight hours. Thanks again to you, the backers, for making this game a reality.

As I wrote in the project page, I believe that communication is the most important part of crowdfunding. During the campaign, I plan to send these updates every 2-3 days. They serve three purposes: answer common questions, introduce new campaign options, and talk about the design, settings, and art of Worldbreakers.

Remember that you can always reach out through the comments here, on the campaign page, the BoardGameGeek forums, or the Worldbreakers Discord channel.

Print-and-Play is coming

I am playtesting a print-and-play version of Worldbreakers and plan to release it through the campaign page in the next few days. Similarly to Tabletop Simulator and Tabletopia, the PnP will be available for free. I want you to be able to try the game and demo it to your friends as soon as possible.

Work-in-progress on the Worldbreakers print-and-play

More playmat designs

When I sent the Kickstarter page to reviewers ahead of the campaign, I included two playmats: The Ten Thousand Ride and The Indigo Grotto. A friend suggested the idea of offering a playmat for each guild, which is how we ended up with the current selection instead. However, three of the reviewers actually asked about the previous playmat designs, so they will make a return in a few days. This means Worldbreakers will have a total of SIX playmat designs to pick from. I will post an update when the new add-ons are available

Coming soon: Two more playmat designs

Retailer pledge

I have added a $50 retailer level for stores who would like to order multiple copies of Worldbreakers. If you are a store owner, please message me through the Kickstarter system or email me at [email protected] for details.

This is also a great opportunity to reach out to your FLGS and let them know that they should grab a bunch of copies ;-)

Campaign updates

  • You can get extra copies of Worldbreakers as an add-on! What better way to spread the joy -- and make sure you have a steady supply of local opponents to play with.
  • Looking to save on shipping? Team up with a group of friends and ordering together. Contact us for an updated shipping estimate on multiple copies.
  • I added shipping options for India, Indonesia, and Norway. If your country is missing from the shipping table, please reach out and I’ll make sure to update it accordingly.
  • The rulebook was missing the solo rules, that oversight has been amended.

Thank you for reading and for your support!

Thank you! Worldbreakers is funded!
about 2 years ago – Wed, Mar 02, 2022 at 11:48:57 AM

Thank you!

I have been dreaming of designing and producing my own game for years. When I started the Worldbreakers journey, I never imagined that the campaign would get funded on the FIRST day.

Call to Arms, by Chinzorig Batochir

Close to 200 of you have answered the call and backed Worldbreakers today. Thank you for helping make this game a reality. I'm going to keep you updated through the rest of the campaign and beyond, with the goal of getting Worldbreakers to your gaming table as soon as possible.

So, once again, thank you.
